Statistics show that nine out of every ten fights go to the ground. Many people are very susceptible to being knocked to the ground because they do not know how to defend themselves. And, what if the attack does not end there. A person who is unable to defend his/her self while standing up, usually stands very little chance at successfully defending against an attacker while lying on the ground. Understand, at times, even the most experienced boxer, kick boxer, or karate student, risks being taken to the ground. This can be a very scary and dangerous situation if you don’t know what to do.
New Generation Karate students age 15 and up can take advantage of our American Freestyle Vale Tudo classes. Vale Tudo (Brazilian Portuguese for “anything goes”) is a martial art that encompasses fighting from a standing position as well as a ground position. Our American Freestyle Team class covers fundamental Boxing, Kickboxing, and Karate skills such as punching, kicking, blocking, sweeping, elbows, and knee strikes. Classes include instruction in basic Judo and Jiu Jitsu techniques that include sweeps, throws, joint manipulation, and pressure points. Last but not least, perhaps the main focus of American Freestyle is its focus on Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (ground fighting, escapes, reversals, submissions,) to create a unique blend of easy to learn street self-defense.
Each class covers use of heavy bags, target mitts, body shields. Instruction in boxing and kickboxing sparring exercises, wrestling attacks and defense, submission techniques, and free sparring. American Freestyle is a hands-on approach to teaching its students quickly and effectively how to defend themselves both on the mat and on the street.
